Etsy fees in 2026: every fee explained (with examples)

Etsy doesn't charge a monthly fee on a standard shop, but almost every sale has several small fees taken out of it. Together they usually come to over 10% of what the buyer pays. This guide explains each fee and works through two examples: a $25 print-on-demand t-shirt and an $8 digital download.

Every figure was checked on Etsy's help pages on 19 October 2026: What are the fees and taxes for selling on Etsy?, payment processing fees and how Offsite Ads work. The legal version is Etsy's Fees & Payments Policy. Fees can change, so check before you set prices.

Etsy fees at a glance (US sellers)

1. Listing fee: $0.20

Every time you publish a listing, Etsy charges $0.20 USD, whether or not it sells. A listing lasts 4 months. If you renew it, manually or with auto-renew, you pay another $0.20. Editing a listing is free.

If a listing has stock left after a sale, it renews automatically and you pay $0.20 again. If a buyer orders several units, you pay $0.20 for each extra one: Etsy's example is ten bowls in one listing, all sold, costing $0.20 to list plus $1.80 for the other nine. In practice, plan on $0.20 for every item you sell, plus renewals for items that don't sell.

Listing fees are set in US dollars. If your payment account uses another currency, Etsy converts the fee at the market rate when it is charged.

2. Transaction fee: 6.5%

When an item sells, Etsy takes 6.5% of the total order amount in your listing currency. That includes the item price and any shipping and gift wrap you charge the buyer. So moving cost from the item price into "shipping" doesn't avoid the fee. Shipping and gift wrap transaction fees appear as separate lines in your Payment account.

3. Payment processing fee: 3% + $0.25 in the US

Orders paid through Etsy Payments also carry a processing fee. It's a percentage plus a flat amount, and it depends on where your bank account is. For a US bank account it is 3% + $0.25 USD per order. It's charged on the total sale price, including shipping and any applicable sales tax, and it comes on top of the 6.5% transaction fee.

Other countries pay different rates, for example 4% + 0.20 GBP in the UK, 4% + 0.30 EUR in Germany and France, and 3% + 0.25 CAD on domestic orders in Canada. Find yours in Etsy's payment processing fee table. Some countries also have deposit fees on small payouts, and VAT on processing fees.

4. Offsite Ads fee: 15% or 12%, only when an ad makes a sale

Etsy advertises listings on sites such as Google, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys from your shop within 30 days, you pay an advertising fee on the order total:

The fee never exceeds $100 USD per order. There's no fee for clicks that don't lead to a sale, but one click can lead to several attributed orders within the 30 days. If the buyer's last click before buying was an Etsy Ad, only the Etsy Ads fee applies.

5. Etsy Ads: you set the budget

Etsy Ads promote your listings in Etsy's own search results. Etsy says "fees for ads vary": you choose a daily maximum budget (at or above a minimum Etsy sets) and won't be charged more than that per day. They're optional, so treat them as a marketing cost rather than a fee on every sale. Before paying for ads, get your titles and tags right with free plans of tools such as eRank and EverBee (see eRank vs EverBee).

6. Currency conversion: 2.5%

If you list items in a currency that differs from your bank account's currency, Etsy converts your Etsy Payments funds for you and charges 2.5% for the conversion. Listing your items in your bank account's currency avoids it.

7. Fees that depend on your country or choices

Worked example 1: a $25 POD t-shirt

A US seller lists a print-on-demand t-shirt for $25 and charges $5 shipping, so the order total is $30. To keep it simple, assume no sales tax on the order. The product cost below is an example, not a quote from any provider. Check your own provider's catalog, for example Printful or Printify.

Say your provider charges $12.50 for the shirt and $4.50 to ship it. Profit = $30.00 − $3.30 − $12.50 − $4.50 = $9.70, a 32.3% margin.

If the sale came from an Offsite Ad, add 15% × $30.00 = $4.50 and profit falls to $5.20 (or $6.10 at the 12% rate). Base prices matter just as much; see Printful vs Printify for beginners.

Worked example 2: an $8 digital download

A US seller sells a printable for $8. Digital files have no shipping, so the order total is $8.00 (again assuming no sales tax).

You keep $6.79 before your own costs. With a 15% Offsite Ads fee (15% × $8.00 = $1.20), you'd keep $5.59. The fee share is higher than for the t-shirt (15.1% vs 11%) because the flat $0.20 and $0.25 weigh more on cheap items.

How to keep more of each sale

Bottom line

For a typical US sale, Etsy's core fees are $0.20 + 6.5% + (3% + $0.25), about 11% on a $30 order and more on cheaper items. Offsite Ads can add 12–15% on the sales they bring in. Outside the US, your processing rate differs and you may also pay set-up, regulatory or VAT charges, so check Etsy's pages for your country. Then plug your own numbers into the calculator.
